I bought the 2 camera program and this camera is Super! Yes you have to run a wire to power it (Duh!). But the signal is sent by way of 2.4ghz. RF (the wireless portion). You can mount the tiny DVR anyplace that you can get reception. I have mine down in the Den next to my recliner, but, you can move it readily if you need to have to monitor from, say, the kitchen. The two way "intercom" is great to have!
If you need to have power outage protection, you will require to install a ups power outlet for every camera (use 1 for a computer system and hook the camera supply into the outlet from the ups)
